Chamomile tea is generally made from one of the species: the Chamomilla recutita, Matricaria recutita or Matricaria chamomilla: These plants are found in much of the United States, but the plants are native to Europe and Asia.

There is some confusion over Chamomile tea, chiefly because it is commonly made from one of two plants, the German chamomile (A. nobilis) and Roman chamomile (M. recutita) or (M. chamomilla) or (C. recutita). However, these plans have similar characteristics of flavor and potential biological activity..

Best known for their apple-like fragrance and flavor, these qualities often surprise and delight both the novice tea drinker and the more experienced. The name chamomile comes from the Greek "kamai" meaning "on the ground" and melon (apple) for ground apple. Many use chamomiles as effective insect repellents.
